Injury to the carpus and tarsus in the dog and cat can lead to substantial functional gait dysfunction. Common problems include collateral ligament injury, hyperextension injury, fractures and musculotendinous injury. This lecture will discuss case selection and decision-making for treatment of these injures. Topics to be discussed include repair of collateral ligament tears, treatment of Achilles tendon tears, partial and complete arthrodesis and fracture repair. Surgical techniques and methods of conservative treatment with stem cells, PRP and orthotics will be included.
